Professional Advisory Committee

Stephen R. Anderson, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of Summit Educational Resources in Tonawanda, New York. Dr. Anderson is a national expert in the education and treatment of children with autism and related developmental disabilities. A licensed psychologist and board certified behavior analyst, he received his Ph.D. in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas where he holds an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor. He also serves as Adjunct Associate Professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo and is an adjunct with the Exceptional Education Department at Buffalo State University.

 

Jed Baker, Ph.D. is the Director of the Social Skills Training Project, a private organization serving individuals with autism and social communication problems.  He also directs social skills training for Millburn Public Schools and is a consultant for several other New Jersey school systems.  Dr. Baker is on the professional advisory board of ASPEN (an information network for parents of children with Asperger's Syndrome).  In addition, he writes, lectures and provides training internationally on the topic of social skills training.  He is an award winning author of four books on social skills training and has written numerous articles.  ABC News and Nightline have featured his work to reduce bullying and increase peer acceptance of students with autism spectrum disorders in the schools.

 

Sandra DeMyer-Gapin, Ph.D. is a member of the American Psychological Association and has more than 25 years of experience in providing clinical psychological service assessments and evaluations in the field of early childhood and autism spectrum disorders. A former faculty member of Kirkland College in Clinton, New York, Dr. Gapin has served as an adjunct professor of psychology at many institutions of higher learning. She is currently the Director of Psychological Services at Upstate Cerebral Palsy and is an established diagnostician in the field of autism spectrum disorders.

 

Susan L. Hyman, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities in Rochester, New York. Dr. Hyman was a graduate of Brown University Medical School and completed a fellowship at the Kennedy Institute/Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is board certified in pediatrics and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Her area of clinical expertise is autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities.

 

Michael Powers, Psy.D. is a Pediatric Psychologist and the Director for the Center for Children with Special Needs in Tolland, Connecticut. He specializes in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of individuals with autism and related developmental disabilities. He completed his graduate work at Columbia and Rutgers and holds an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at the Child Study Center, Yale University. In 1990, he was awarded the Literary Achievement Award by the Autism Society of America for Children with Autism: A Parent's Guide (1989).   

 

Veronica M. Zysk is the former Executive Director of the Autism Society of America (ASA) in Bethesda, Maryland. In her work with ASA, Ms. Zysk directed the production of a nation-wide newsletter and spearheaded the first National Institutes of Health International Symposium on Autism. Following her tenure as Executive Director of ASA, she has assumed the role of managing editor of the Autism Asperger's Digest magazine, a bi-monthly, national publication dedicated to research, information sharing and innovation for professionals and families. As an Autism Consultant, Ms. Zysk shares 13 years of experience in the Autism Community as a visionary leader and committed advocate for autism research and treatment.
