Senator Griffo Announces Continued Funding for Awesome Summer Days Camp

Senator Joseph A. Griffo announced that he has secured $25,000 in funding for The Kelberman Center at Upstate Cerebral Palsy.  The funding will be used for the Center's Awesome Summer Days Camp.  The day camp is designed for kids ages 6-14 with autism spectrum disorder, asperger's syndrome or related challenges.  It gives many of these chldren the chance to have a traditional summertime experience.

"I'm honored to be able to help this fine program for another year," said Senator Griffo.  "All you need to do is walk around the camp and ask the kids if they're having fun."  Their answers and those of their parents and the camp's organizers tell you all that you need to know about how well this program does.  The community should commend The Kelberman Center for its work."

Senator Griffo announced the award at the Awesome Summer Days Camp Family Day in Chadwicks, where camp participants and their families gathered to celebrate the success of the program.

According to Kelberman Center Executive Director Helen Stepowany, "Senator Griffo's generous support has once again created a wonderful opportunity to expand Kelberman Center programming to serve even more children with autism and their families. With currently 1 in 150 children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders in the United States, targeted programs such as the Awesome Summer Days Camp are crucial steps towards providing these children with learning and recreational opportunities. Through this funding, the Kelberman Center will continue to address the critical social skills needs of our campers, who are in turn able to apply these life-long skills to their daily activities and interactions outside of camp. The Kelberman Center would like to thank Senator Griffo for his backing of such an innovative and life-changing program."
